While it has been relatively quiet on the Star Trek front of late, there was an update last month that the script for the third movie had not been passed along to Paramount and a release date was unknown. But it seems like one of the stars can confirm when the movie will come and who will direct it.

Zachary Quinto Gives 'Star Trek' Update, Says It Should Be Ready To Go Soon

Speaking with Trek Movie, Simon Pegg said that Roberto Orci would be directing and they were hoping to have the movie ready by 2016. Pegg specifically said the movie would be made in time to coincide with 50th anniversary of the television show next year and that he and the other actors "couldn't wait to make Star Trek 3 next year."

As for the plot of the next movie, Pegg said he had some opinions on the direction that Scotty would go moving forward in the franchise.

Paramount Has Not Seen 'Star Trek 3' Script Yet, Is It Going To Ever Happen?

"I would like to see Scotty challenged more. He is always complaining so if you ask him he is always challenged. I would like to see him in more situations of adversity," Pegg said.

"It is fun playing Scotty seriously too. I think he has a very serious heart. He is somebody who takes his job incredibly seriously. He is somebody who is fiercely loyal. He has a lot of attributes that are deadly serious. He just goes through life with an attitude that is fairly light and ironic."

It seems like a 2015 shooting date would make sense. For Pegg, he is about to start production on Mission: Impossible 5 and could slide right into Star Trek 3 afterwards. Orci is at work on the script and an update could be coming up soon as to where it stands.
