Oscar winner Ben Affleck revealed some details about his life as a tabloid target and how it actually helped him with his upcoming role.

Does Ben Affleck Allow Jennifer Garner To Have Male Friends?

On Thursday, Entertainment Weekly posted an interview with the actor and with director David Fincher. The two worked together in the future flick Gone Girl where Affleck plays a man accused of murdering his wife. His character receives constant attack from the media and the public, something that Affleck had to deal with in real life.

When the actor dated Jennifer Lopez, the two were known as "Bennifer," one of the paparazzi's favorite celebrity couples. Since Affleck was already being hounded by the media at that point, playing a man who's going through a similar situation made him realize that he already knew what to do to make his role believable.

"It wasn't something I had to do a lot of research for," Affleck said. "I knew what it was like to have the tabloid world paying attention to me and ascribing negative motivations to whatever I might be engaging in. I knew what it was to be cast in a soap opera I had no control over."

Fincher then revealed why the Argo star was chosen, which definitely had to do with living life as a media target.

"We knew we needed somebody who was charming and could be seductive, who could be a ladies man, a guy's guy, a frat boy," the director said. "But most important, [someone] who had the wits and experience of knowing that situation. The gift of having Ben Affleck is that this is a guy who 'knows.'"

Affleck still makes media headlines with his marriage to Jennifer Garner so it seems like he still has to deal with the constant attention.
