In an interview dated September 10, Josh Charles spoke about working on The Good Wife and looking to the future.

Governor Florrick's Flirtatious Intern To Return In Season 6

Charles, who played Will Gardner -- his character was killed off in season 5 -- in the CBS legal drama, spoke to Screen Crush. The actor stated that while working on The Good Wife was a very enriching experience, he hopes to play different characters in his career and is looking to find a new television show.

"No, I don't think I am. I mean, I made some good ones and I'm eager to sort of - you know, to me, having this sort of run, this glorious five years of having the security and structure of The Good Wife and working with such brilliant writing," he said. "I mean, look, I had no sort of fantasy that I'm going to like walk out there and immediately like everything's going to be, oh, here's my dream job. But it's really about just wanting to do different characters and I'm hoping that continues in all mediums and I can't wait to find the next television show ... and the good news is, there's a lot going on in my life personally right now."

An "Internal Crisis" Will Threaten To Destroy Florrick-Agos In Season 6

Charles hasn't completely severed ties with the show, as in July TVLine reported that the actor will be returning in the role of a director for season 6. Charles has worn the director's cap episodes in past seasons of the show as well. In season 4 Charles directed, The Art of War, and in season 5 he took on The Next Month and Tying the Knot.

Here's the official synopsis for season 6:

"Picking up exactly where season five ended, Alicia is adamant in her refusal to run for State's Attorney. Between an internal crisis for Cary at Florrick/Agos and Diane possibly joining her firm, Alicia has way too much to juggle without the additional stress of politics."

The highlight of the finale for season 5 was Eli Gould (Alan Cumming) proposing Alicia (Julianna Margulies) become a candidate for State's Attorney. The cliffhanger obviously had to do with the big decision Alicia will have to take now.

The finale, titled A Weird Year, aired on May 18.

Season 6 of The Good Wife will premiere on CBS at 9/8c on September 21.
