The Blacklist let the Berlin mystery marinate over the summer, and the story of Red's nemesis will come to a conclusion during season 2.

Liz Slighted By Red On 'The Blacklist', Sparks 'Sibling Rivalry' With New Agent

Under the impression that Red (James Spader) murdered his daughter, Berlin (Peter Stormare) went to great lengths to try and kill the master criminal and the FBI's blacksite team in the season 1 finale. Now that Red and Liz's (Megan Boone) work on the blacklist has forced him out of hiding, Berlin will come after the pair with renewed vigor.

"Berlin is very much a portion of the first part of the season," teased executive producer John Eisendrath, according to Buddy TV. "What happens in that adversarial battle will get resolved over the course of the first half of the season with I hope some surprising reversals of what it means. The picture in the locket is essential to the outcome of their relationship."

Will viewers ever find out who the unnamed woman is, or will The Blacklist only allude to her identity? It appears the series' writers will serve up a combo platter.

"We do feel an obligation to give concrete answers," Eisendrath explained to Buddy TV. "That picture, what it means and who it is we definitely feel an obligation to be very clear fairly early in the season and then surprise people shortly thereafter."
