Elizabeth Smart scoured headlines after being kidnapped 12 years ago, now she has revealed her husband did not know about her experience.
Elizabeth Smart Publishes Memoire 'My Story' About Kidnapping
She spoke with The Today Show earlier this week on her new book My Story and said it was refreshing to have met someone who did not know the details of her past.
"He liked me because he thought I was nice, funny and smart."
Still, she added that she and her husband are still happy.
"Life's great. It couldn't be better. I hope that I never stop progressing and never stop getting better."
Smart also said that she does not make any efforts to look up the people who captivated her.
At the time of her kidnapping, Smart was just 14-years-old.
She went on to say that she has decided to go down the path of "gratitude" versus taking the easy road of being angry due to what she experienced during the nine months of being held captive.
"I've just seen over and over and over of how many people cared. How many people searched for me...I dealt with it as they happened. I went through a mental process as things happened to me. At first yeah it was 'I'm disgusting,' but then I refined myself and said, 'No I'm still a good person.'"
She added that all she wanted when she returned home was to make up for all of the things she had missed while being kidnapped.
