Missy Franklin, who won an emotional first gold medal on Monday, was brought back down to Earth on Tuesday evening in London as she fought gallantly but came up short in the 200 Meter Freestyle. Franklin, who has won the hearts of millions of fans with her passion, just missed out on a medal coming in fourth place.

The result meant she missed out on a medal in the 200 Meter Freestyle, and event most had thought she could have got a podium finish from. And she was so close; touching in just 0.01 seconds behind third place.

Just 24 hours ago the teenage American swimming sensation had qualified for the 200 Meter Freestyle final, before almost immediately jumping back in the Olympic Aquatics Center swimming pool in East London to take part in the 100 Meter Backstroke final. She amazingly won gold in that event, and raised expectations for her coming events at London 2012.

Franklin's teammate, Allison Schmitt, took the gold medal in the 200 Meter Freestyle, setting a new Olympic record at the same time.

Despite her achievement Franklin will be disappointed to have missed out by such a tight margin, especially after the lightning start she got off to in the race. She was the first to the 50 Meter mark, and was still in second place at the half way point. But she fell short by the smallest of margins at the final touch.

However, it is not the end for Franklin; she still has two further individual races to go at London 2012, as well as two relays to compete in. Franklin has the 100 Meter Free event, commencing on Wednesday, as well as the 200 Meter Back, which she will be confident in.
