Things have been getting a bit violent on the set of Showtime's Penny Dreadful this week.

'Penny Dreadful' Is Turning Up The 'Action' In New Episodes

James Hawes has been in Dublin directing the series since September and, as he noted himself on Tuesday, isn't afraid to break some skulls, even if the skulls are fake.

A Shadowy Figure Will Be 'Lurking' This Season On 'Penny Dreadful'

That same day Hawes backed up the claim with a photo of presumably fake blood in the snow, teasing that perhaps something might happen to Reeve Carney's Dorian Gray.

While it's possible Dorian could be in for a beating in upcoming episodes, another possibility is that Carney's character could be witness to or part of a pretty intense run-in with some of this season's latest monsters. The same day Hawes posted the photo, make up designer and key prosthetic makeup artist Sarita Allison dished on her "little monsters."

In addition to some new monsters, fans can also look for a wink from the director this season. Hawes revealed on Thursday that his name would be used for one of the storefronts.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second, longer season in 2015.
