On Monday night The Originals got a new vampire as Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) turned Gia (Nishi Munshi) and left Elijah (Daniel Gillies) to mentor her, but if fans of The CW series are expecting this relationship to blossom into anything else, they are mistaken.

Find Out Why The Fate Of 'The Vampire Diaries' Lies With 'The Originals'

"There certainly isn't a romantic dynamic happening there," Gillies told TVLine on Monday. "I don't want fans jumping to that conclusion."

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) have a similar relationship, in spite of the fact that they've had a child together, and Klaus has taken the new hybrid under his wing. The relationship between Elijah and Gia could be used to mirror that, showing a vampire mentorship instead of a hybrid one. It will also give Elijah something to focus on outside of the compound, where things have gotten increasingly complicated.

Elijah Gets Emotional Over Hayley On 'The Originals'

"Hayley has far more sway over Elijah than Klaus does," explained Gillies. "If she tells him to back off, he'll listen. As much as Elijah wants to honor this idea he's been striving for, the reunification of his family, at the moment, her really just wishes this woman [Hayley] peace."

While Season 1 was heavy on Klaus-Elijah-Marcel drama, Season 2 will be looking at a much bigger challenge. Surprisingly enough, its not Mikael (Sebastian Roche), the infamous and murderous father to Klaus and Elijah.

"Mikael has always seemed like a threat that Klaus and Elijah could handle if they were able to work together," noted Gillies. "But Esther [their mother] is a whole different kettle of fish. She's not just the most powerful witch in New Orleans. She might just be the most powerful creature in their entire dimension."

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
