Since bringing home the bronze medal in 1992, the USA women's basketball team has won an astounding 38 consecutive games. Amazingly, they have racked up 4 gold medals in that same period. At the 2012 London Olympic Games they will look to obtain their 5th.

Surprisingly, the men's side of Team USA basketball has not even been as dominant in the sport as the women in that time frame, as they had considerably slipped when they failed at a 1st place finish and left with a bronze medal in 2004.

Although somewhat under the media radar, the USA women's squad is indeed one of the most physically imposing teams in the history of the Olympic Games, having outscored their opponents by an average point margin of 39.  At the current 2012 games, the powerhouse team to be reckoned has defeated their competition by a 37.7 difference.

USA star player Candace Parker touched on America's dominance to the LA Times.

"We know we have a standard to uphold, and [we want to] honor the past Olympians and be role models for the future ones," she explained.

Honor indeed, as women now make up over 40% of all Olympians, with every country now possessing at least one female member.

The media coined "Title IX Olympics" act was passed in 1972 and has played a large part in women's increasing presence on the world stage. The ruling went on to strictly prohibit any type of gender discrimination in both educational activities and programs. In the 40 years since its passing, women's basketball programs, amongst other sports, have flourished globally.

With the Olympics continuing to evolve and change for the better, the USA women's basketball team has a real opportunity to showcase their true talent on a very large scale.

Judging by the pouncing they have given their competition for the past two decades, USA clearly looks to be the favorites against the Aussie female team in the semifinals on Thursday.

In their last big matchup at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, America's girls minimized Australia to just 25% shooting on the court and defeated them by 27 points to win the gold medal.

USA basketball fans, let's show the women the same love we show the men's squad!

Team USA will take on Australia at 12PM EST on Thursday, August 9th
