The big winners of the 2014 American Music Awards was One Direction, Beyonce and Katy Perry. Iggy Azaelia and Sam Smith also took away top honors.

One Direction ruled the night at the Nokia theater on November 23 winning artist of the year, favorite album, and favorite band/duo or rock group. The British boy band was up against the likes of Beyonce, Imagine Dragons, Lorde, Katy Perry and Iggy Azaelia in these categories. Azaelia won favorite artist in rap/hip-hop and Imagine Dragons claimed the best alternative rock act. Katy Perry trumped Lorde and Azaelia for favorite female artist in pop/rock, while Sam Smith took the honors in the male category. Perry also the favorite artist in adult/contemporary. The queen of pop and R&B, Beyonce won favorite female artist and favorite album in soul and R&B.

Taylor Swift opened the ceremony with a spectacular performance of her most recent hit Blank Space.
