The Phase 3 slate of Marvel movies will be introducing their first black and female superheroes to lead any of their films. But with casting of Captain Marvel awhile from now, who is already interested in taking on the role?

One New Phase 3 Marvel Movie Will Be Important In 'Avengers 3' & 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'

Screen Crush spoke with Emily Blunt on Sunday about her new film, Into the Woods, but also asked her if she had any interest in playing Captain Marvel for the studio.

"I think, it's always for me, it's always about-and now, more so-what am I putting out there?" she said. "What would be interesting for me and what would be interesting for people to see. So, if it's an awesome part, it doesn't matter if it's a Marvel movie or a tiny movie, I'd be up for it."

Blunt was almost a part of the Marvel mold in 2009 when she was a finalist for the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2 that eventually went to Scarlet Johansson. Ironically, Johansson has yet to get her own solo film with the character and Blunt could get one before her if she took the Captain Marvel role.

The actress has become a sort of go-to action star now as she gained credit for her top-notch work in Looper and this year's Edge of Tomorrow and is known for bringing a strong personality to a female action character. Bringing her on would also be a big draw as the actress has become a large name within the industry.

Captain Marvel is set to come out in 2019 with the character possibly appearing before in either Captain America 3.
