UPDATE: MO FARAH of GREAT BRITAIN WINS GOLD!

---

The men's 5000M final at the London 2012 Olympic Games takes place on Saturday and promises to be a fiercely competed contest, with a few Americans hoping to claim a medal - something Team USA has not done for nearly 50 years. The men's 5000 meter final can be watched online through live stream (see below for link).

Team USA's best hope to claim a medal in the 5000 meters is arguably Bernard Lagat. He finished second at the World Championships at both the 2009 and 2011 meets and will be hoping to go one better today and is a serious contender.

Another American runner is Lopez Lamong who qualified for the final in a time of 13 minutes 26.16 seconds, and he will be pushing himself to try and surprise the field to get on the rostrum.

No American runner has won an Olympic medal at the 5,000 meters since 1964 - which is a period going back 48 years. That astonishing record could be broken today though with Lagat the best hope for American fans.

However, the American athletes will be up against some world class competitors. Mo Farah of Great Britain will be attempting to claim a second gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics as he competes in front of his home crowd.

Farah won the 10,000 meter final is a dramatic race last week, and he will be one of the favorites to take the gold in the 5,000 meters. He is the current reigning champion in this event.

However, Galen Rupp, Farah's training partner has already had to settle for a silver medal behind Farah in the 10,000 meter final, and he will be hoping to convert his challenge into a gold medal here.

Farah, Rupp as well as Lagat all comfortably qualified for the final, although none of them showed their cards during the preliminary races. They were each satisfied to pace themselves to finish mid-pack but will surely be putting everything in today's final.
