On Aug.16's "Today Show," things turned uncomfortable for host Matt Lauer when he was unexpectedly called out on live television by weatherman Al Roker.

During an interview with two Olympians, where Roker and newest co-host Savannah Guthrie were also present, Lauer had queried the United States rowers on some of their biggest traditions.

Clearly trying to get some laughs, the 54- year-old had said the following, according to TMZ:

"The tradition here in NY is you throw her in the Hudson River."

However, Roker, 57, instantly shot back with a response that was surely unexpected.

"Which is different than OUR tradition ... which is you throw one of us under the bus, but that's another story," he bluntly stated.

Upon Roker's seemingly bold statement, Lauer and Guthrie went on to laugh awkwardly.

The comment was possibly hinting to Ann Curry, who had been ousted in July from her co-anchor position on the "Today Show" alongside Matt Lauer. It was later justified by poor ratings against current rival "Good Morning America." However, it was reported that behind the scenes, Lauer had both demeaned Curry and requested for NBC to terminate ties with her, according to the online gossip site.

Although replaced on "Today" by Guthrie, Curry still works for NBC as a news journalist and photojournalist.
