Amber Portwood: 'Teen Mom' Airs Episode Where She Handed Over Custody of Her Daughter [VIDEO]
MTV aired an episode on Tuesday of "Teen Mom" when Amber Portwood, 22 granted full custody of her 3-year-old daughter Leah to her ex-fiance Gary Shirley before beginning her 5-year-jail sentence.
Portwood agreed to give Leah to Shirley to avoid a "no contact" court order on Episode 11 of Season 4, which aired Tuesday. But the episode was pre-recorded as she is currently in jail.
"She loves her mommy," Shirley tells Portwood on the episode.
"If you get custody of her no contact order is dropped and the CPS (Child Protective Services) is gone?" Portwood asks him.
"Right. I'm just trying to protect her. If you have no objections then I want to get custody. I am not going to keep her from you. You are going to be able to see Leah whenever you want," he says.
Portwood began serving her jail sentence in June. She was sentenced to 5 years for drug posession in January. The court gave her the option to avoid jail if she completed a drug rehabilitation program but she decided to quit rehab and do her time in prison.
MTV's "Teen Mom" featured her difficulties in raising Leah and maintaining a relationship with on- and off-again boyfriend and father of her child, Gary.
During the show, she was also charged with domestic violence and was at risk of losing custody of her daughter.
It remains unkown whether she will seek Leah's custody once she is out of jail.
