There is plenty of "betrayal and retribution" brewing on The Originals this season.

Why 'The Vampire Diaries' Needs 'The Originals'

On Sunday director Matt Hastings announced on Twitter that production would resume for the show's second season on The CW Jan. 6. He also gave of a new hints as to what's in store, with some clues a bit more graphic than others.

Where there's conflict and cruelty there is always Klaus (Joseph Morgan), though its uncertain as to whether he will be the betrayer or the betrayed. It's also possible Hastings' reference could be in relation to the return of Mikael (Sebastian Roche), who won't be featured much in the 2015 premiere later this month.

Then of course there is the Rebekah problem. Betrayed by her brother, Kol (Daniel Sharman), the original vampire found herself placed into the body of a trapped witch (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers) after being forced out of her own. Klaus and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) won't even know where she is when the season picks up again this month, meaning there will be plenty of ground to cover.

The Originals returns on The CW for the remainder of its second season Monday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
