The Originals will be all about reaching deep into the past when it returns this month.

Hayley Could Be Facing Off Against Witches On 'The Originals'

It looks like fans will be getting more Esther, Dahlia, and sibling rivalry as The CW drama continues with its second season. "The big question is will she [Dahlia] show up and come for that child [Hope],"
explained executive producer Michael Narducci to TVLine at the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Sunday.

With more flashbacks and Mikaelson family history, the series will likely include more of Alice Eve, who originated the role of Esther before it was taken over in the present by Sonja Sohn.

Josh & Aiden In Danger On 'The Originals'

Facing a new threat to the baby will also create some new conflict within the Mikaelson family. According to Narducci, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) will not see eye-to-eye when it comes to protecting Hope. Their different approaches could echo season 1, where Elijah preached patience and order over Klaus' tendency towards violence.

Elijah, however, hasn't been the same since he was captured and tortured by Esther and writers might use this as an opportunity to change the roles, making Elijah the unreasonable one and Klaus the steady voice of reason.

In addition to prepping for new drama, The Originals celebrated a season 3 pickup this week, which means that cast and crew can relax knowing that the show will get to continue exploring the Mikealson family dynamics this fall.

The Originals returns on The CW for the remainder of its second season Monday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
