MTV is changing the format of 16 and Pregnant ahead of season six.

The Cast Of '16 & Pregnant' Season 5 Is Returning To MTV

In a new report, the network confirmed the show will be returning to television with a major change involving its cast.

“We are retooling 16 and Pregnant,” MTV programming boss Susanne Daniels told The TV Page on Saturday. “We decided to try something new. 16 and Pregnant was stand alone episodes [in the past] and we are going to use the Teen Mom format for 16 and Pregnant this season.”

Instead of having one girl featured in each episode of 16 and Pregnant, the network will select four girls, just as they do with their Teen Mom franchises, and feature their story lines each week.

“We wanted to try that format,” Daniels explained. “You can understand why, right? There are pros and cons to closed-ended programming. Obviously, you like it because it repeats and it is easy to show out of order. But there are pros to ongoing as well."

According to Daniels, ratings for Teen Mom build over the course of the season as viewers get more invested in each of the girls' story lines, so using that format with 16 and Pregnant could prove beneficial to the series.

The TV Page reported that a premiere date for 16 and Pregnant season six could be announced within the next 30 days.
