Lady Gaga's Cover Retouched for Skinnier, Finer Features on Vogue Magazine [PHOTO]
Vogue unveiled behind-the scenes footage of the cover shooting of its much awaited September issue featuring Lady Gaga. But the magazine is making headlines for the wrong reasons and the photoshop retouching is creating a controversy all the more because of increasing complaints against "unrealistic" images of stars on magazines.
Lady Gaga, who encourages her fans to accept themselves (as she sings in songs like "I was Born This Way,") is featured on the cover with much skinnier proportions and finer facial features compared to the behind-the-scenes cover photo shoot released by Vogue at the same time.
At times, the singer's image is so stylized that it ends looking closer to a cartoon than a real person.
Since the coveted issue was unveiled, many publications are questioning whether Vogue went too far this time.
"The September issue sees her wearing an electric purple Marc Jacobs number looking lean. But a new video from the shoot exposes how she actually looked chunky and unflattering in reality," U.K's The Sun noted on its story.
"It's no secret that magazine covers get retouched, but it's Vogue's completely airbrushed September issue with Lady Gaga going too far?" wrote the New York Post.
"Aa just-released video from the Lady Gaga Vogue cover shoot reveals just how much Photoshop whittling work went into creating the singer's extreme wasp-waist and clearly elongated height on the mag's cover," wrote the Hollywood Reporter.
This is not the first time that a magazine has retouched celebrities to improve their appearance on cover magazines. At one point, Glamour magazine made tremendous headlines for cutting Kristen Stewart's left arm on a cover.
But the issue also brings to the conversation Lady Gaga's body issues. A couple of weeks ago, Gaga confessed to her fans that she still struggles with "massive" body-image issues. She confessed this after she admitted that she had dealt with bulimia in the past.
