Green Day's frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was rushed to the hospital due to an illness last weekend in Bologna, Italy.

The group had to cancel their show at the I-Festival in Italy on Sunday due to the emergency.

The cause of his illness has yet to be disclosed. Two of Green Day's other bandmembers Mike Dirnt and Tre' Cool posted a video statement on YouTube apologizing "profusely" for the cancellation to their fans, according to NBC.

"We apologize profusely," Dirnt said.

"Billy got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness. The doctors don't think it's a good idea for him to play today."

"We're beyond devastated," Tré Cool added. "We're as sad as you guys are. Billie's extremely upset about it, and we'll see you very soon."

Green Day will release three albums beginning Sept. 25, Nov.13 and Jan. 15, 2013 . The albums will be titled¡Uno!¡Dos! and ¡Tré! 

Armstrong is scheduled to join Christina Aguilera on "The Voice" as a mentor for her team.

Green Day is scheduled to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, Sept. 6. There is no word on whether they will appear or cancel their performance at the annual awards ceremony.
