Rocky Carroll who plays Director Leon Vance made his directorial debut earlier this week on NCIS and now he's talking about that experience.

The NCIS YouTube Channel uploaded a video of the actor on Tuesday answering questions about his directorial debut, his character and more.

"This was my first voyage as a director," he said before diving into fan questions.

The premise for the episode is that Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the team investigate the murder of openly gay Navy Lieutenant Eric Kutzler (Andy Favreau), who was set to receive the Medal of Honor. They're trying to find out if it was a hate crime.

Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) prepares for fatherhood in the episode too.

Carroll admitted that at first he didn't see directing this episode as "groundbreaking," but said, "Of course it was. But I didn't want to add the extra pressure of thinking, 'This is a major episode. The storyline is very groundbreaking. It hasn't been done. It hasn't been done on our show before.'"

"I was just trying to approach it as another episode," he added.

 He explained that guest stars are only on set for one or two days so making a connection so they perform well was important.

"It was all very groundbreaking for me," he revealed about directing the episode.

"It was a real joy," he concluded about getting the chance to direct.
