Many celebrities have taken to cutting their hair and featuring a newly copped cut to update their image.

One pop star has now shaved her head for non-aesthetic reasons.

Lady Gaga shaved the back of her head to honor her friend Terry Richardson's loss of his mother's passing.

The image, posted on Littlemonsters.com, reveals a portion of Gaga's hair shaved in a triangular shape.

"I did it for u Terry. I'm sorry about ure mommy. She has princess die, but we are all princess die," she also tweeted.

Gaga's sentiments were for renowned celebrity photographer Richardson. The pop star and lens man collaborated together on a coffee table book featuring images exclusively of Gaga. "Lady Gaga X Terry Richardson" was published in 2011.

Richardson announced his mother's passing on his Tumblr page. "R.I.P. Annie Lomax, My Mom 1938-2012," he wrote.

Richardson is known for shooting celebrities and models in a series of controversial shots primarily in the nude, topless, and in silly poses wearing his signature horn-rimmed eyeglasses. He helped model Kate Upton shoot to stardom from photos he shot of her and videos he posted and later banned on YouTube.

In one appropriately titled video, "The Many Talents of Kate Upton," Richardson paid tribute to a fellow blond bombshell Pamela Anderson from the popular 1990's television show "Baywatch."

When a preview for the video first came out in May of this year, it went viral and amassed almost 750,000 views in the first 24 hours, before it was temporarily removed from YouTube for violating the site's rules on sexual content.

Gaga made headlines recently for wearing fur this year during the summer months after stating in 2009 on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "I hate fur and I don't wear fur."

Alan Cumming and Ke$ha are just a few celebrity supporters of PETA that criticized the "Hair" singer.

In an open letter, Ke$ha wrote, "As a fellow artist, I would like to express my distaste, and quite bluntly, my disgust, at the fact that you, someone who is in the spotlight at a near constant basis, would endorse and display this type of clothing."

"I'm so disappointed to learn @ladygaga wears fur! Guess she doesn't love all little monsters," tweeted "The Good Wife" actor Cumming.

Gaga later defended herself on Twitter: "For those press and such who are writing about whether or not my fur is actually real, please don't forget to credit the designer HERMES. Thank You! LOVE, gaga."

Cumming responded with, "Really @ladygaga? Giving Hermes a shout out is more important than being open with your fans?! #shabby."
