Basketball player Tracy McGrady and his search for a suitable team continued on Thursday, Sept. 13, when he worked out for the New York Knicks at their Greenburgh practice gymnasium. He had showcased his skills earlier in the week for the San Antonio Spurs. The seven time all-star is trying to return to his previous form after a subpar season with the Atlanta Hawks.

According to the New York Post, the 33-year-old is looking to make a return with the Knicks after averaging only 9.4 points per game with the team in 2009-2010. Last season, McGrady averaged 5.3 points off the bench with the Atlanta Hawks, which was the lowest full-season average of his 15-year career.

New York's decision to invite McGrady to their training camp is surely a sign that the team is looking to build more depth behind big name players such as Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudamire in order to compete for an NBA championship. The core stars are all under contract for at least the next three years, which gives the Knicks more of an incentive to win in the present.

Since last year's first round playoff ousting by the NBA champion Miami Heat, the Knicks have brought in some more experience. Veterans Jason Kidd (39), Kurt Thomas (39) and Marcus Camby (38) were all picked up during the offseason. The team even signed 36-year-old international point guard Pablo Prigini.

The Knicks currently have an open spot on their 20-man training camp roster. If McGrady ends up making the cut, he will more than likely have to go up against Chris Copeland, Mychel Thompson and three other unsigned rookies for a regular season roster spot.

According to Yahoo, McGrady is looking to find a guaranteed contract in the NBA.  If he is not successful, then he will reportedly look to play overseas, potentially in China.
