The iOS 6 release date is already here but Apple fans are staying up and waiting to download the latest operating system from Apple as it hasn't launched just yet. The exact time of the launch is unknown and the company still has not offered any clues as to when the software will become available and when the iOS 6 will be available for download.

When iOS 6 is finally launched, Apple is expected to have a surge of downloads from its website as soon as the update becomes available.

Apple fans are advised to wait a few hours before downloading the operating system, as there will could possibly be logjams or crashes to the website due to the high amount of traffic.

Apple could release it any time up to midnight tonight. However, many are expecting it to release in the morning or lunchtime on the west coast of the United States.

The iOS 6 release date was first announced last week during Apple's San Francisco event where it also unveiled the eagerly awaited iPhone 5.

Internationally, because Apple is based on the west coast of the U.S. many others around the world may see the date actually be Sept. 20 before they get the chance to download the new operating system, in Australia and New Zealand for example.

It is believed that Apple has refused to reveal the exact time of the release so as to avoid an organized mass rush to download the iOS 6 with potentially millions using its servers at the same time. Such a mass flood of visitors to its site could cause problems and see the Apple site crash. Apple of course has one of the most extensive infrastructures in place to deal with such demand but still the popularity of its products and the expected rush at release time is something that potentially could cause some issues if not dealt with expertly.
Those who have already pre-ordered the iPhone 5 can relax today as their devices will be delivered in a few more days with the iOS 6 already pre-installed.

Apple has boasted the new operating system has more than 200 new features, among them are FaceTime over 3G, as well as an upgrade to Siri's capabilities. So far the voice-activated personal assistant, Siri, has only been available on the iPhone. However, with the iOS 6 release Siri will now become available on the new iPad (third generation), as well as the fifth generation iPod Touch.

Last year Apple integrated Twitter, but many fans were left bewildered over why Facebook had not also been included. With the iOS 6, Facebook integration will be implemented, allowing users to operate their Facebook accounts seamlessly.

Another exciting apps to be included with the iOS 6 is called "Passbook." This new app is basically a digital "wallet" or "handbag." Users will be able to store and neatly organize all their digital movie tickets, digital boarding passes for flights, as well as the all important digital versions of discount coupons for shopping.

The iOS 6 can be installed over the air when it will be released. When iOS 6 arrives, you can update wirelessly, which for most people with a good Wi-Fi connection will be the simplest method.

On your device, go to: Settings > General > Software Update

Alternately, go to the Apple site for more info and support.
