'Grey's Anatomy' Season 9 Spoilers: Arizona, Callie, Meredith, Cristina & Derek News
The new season of "Grey's Anatomy" began on Thursday, Sept. 27, and there is a lot in store for the doctors of Seattle Grace, including one's new life as an attending physician in Minnesota.
While Sara Ramirez has not revealed much about the future of Callie's relationship with Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), she did say that she hopes fans "will continue on this journey with us, because it's definitely going to be an intense one," according to Hollywood Life.
Arizona survives the plane crash, but she is missing one leg. She then goes into a state of depression, which Callie tries to get her out of.
Ramirez also said that Callie will put a lot of pressure on herself this season to help Derek with his arm injury.
Rumors were flying of a Izzie (Katherine Heigl) return this season. However, Hollywood Life confirmed that though she will not be back herself, a new intern on the show has a strong resemblance to the former character.
"She's very strong-willed - she reminds me of Izzie in a way," cast member Kevin McKidd describes new intern Wilson (Camilla Luddington). "She has very strong views. And Owen, being the chief, has to rub up against her and sort of get into ethical battles with her, so it's interesting to see that."
When we saw Meredith Grey in last season's finale, she had just experienced the death of her sister, her husband was severly injured and she was by her best friend Cristina's side awaiting rescue from a plane crash, along with her co-workers.
Traumatizing?
Well, "Grey's Anatomy" executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, said not really.
"We're not coming back to a bunch of traumatized people, though flying is pretty much out of the question for any of them," she said to TV Guide. "I would say Meredith is an ultimate survivor. She's been through the shooting, and now she's been through the plane crash. Their attitudes are very different."
After experiencing the loss of her sister, Lexie, in last season's finale, Rhimes said that Meredith will be "a very different person" in season nine.
And what about the love of her life, Derek?
Patrick Dempsey's character on "Grey's Anatomy" faced a severe arm injury on last season's finale from the place crash..
"We're going to watch what happens to a doctor who can temporarily no longer perform surgery," Rhimes said. "And what do you do and how do you overcome this? Derek is being pretty heroic about it, which is interesting."
Additionally, Dempsey said, "The first couple of episodes, he's trying to perform surgery, and it's not working, so he has to make an adjustment."
Rhimes said this will be the "season of romance."
A slow reconciling of Cristina and Owen's relationship is also confirmed to take place, as they start to reignite their passion and remember how much they love each other.
In the premiere episode, we saw Cristina start as an attending physician at her new hospital in Minnesota. She does not get along so well with her co-workers and viewers are left asking, when will she return to Seattle Grace?
