Scandal actress Kerry Washington is gracing the cover of Marie Claire for publication's April issue and she's revealing some secrets about her childhood, beauty secrets and life lessons she hopes to teach her daughter Isabel.

While most fans only dreaming of hanging out with Washington and asking her about some of her personal secrets, actress Lena Dunham got the chance to interview her 'girl crush' for Marie Claire's April issue.

Washington, who's usually on the hush hush about her private life, is opening up about her life as a child and truly being grateful for the woman she is today.

The stunning actress has become well known for her fierce style, natural beauty, and her wisdom, Washington admitted that she didn't grow up thinking she was pretty.

"I didn't grow up thinking I was pretty; there was always a prettier girl than me," she told the mag. "So I learned to be smart and tried to be funny and develop the inside of me, because I felt like that's what I had."

Now the Washington is a mother, she eager to teach baby Isabel that she's always heard and other important life lessons.

"I just want her [daughter Isabelle] to know that she's heard. Really heard, because I feel like that is what we all really want. When I think about any of the missteps in my life that I've made, all of which I'm grateful for, it's because I just so wanted to be truly seen and heard for who I am and was afraid I wasn't or wouldn't be. I see you, I hear you, I'm with you as you are."

Fans can see more of Washington starring in the ABC hit political drama Scandal. The show airs every Thursday night at 9 p.m.
