Days of Our Lives is approaching its big 50 year anniversary, and to celebrate, several favorite characters could be briefly heading back to the canvas for special appearances.

While no official confirmations have been made about some of Salem's most memorable former residents coming back, fans have been speculating who could come back quite a bit-and they may get to see quite a few who they weren't expecting as a result.

Here are five characters we hope may return in some way for the 50th anniversary of Days:

1. Sami Brady-DiMera

While the show has managed to remain intriguing since Sami's exit last fall, there is undeniably something still missing in Salem without her. No one knew how to scheme in quite the way Sami did, and when she made something her mission, there was no questioning it was just best to stay out of her way.

Thankfully, there is a chance Alison Sweeney could bring Sami back for a brief appearance following her move from Hollywood, as the actress expressed interest after her 2014 exit in returning for the show's anniversary.

"Are you kidding? Days celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. No way am I missing that!" she said at the time.

2. EJ DiMera

On the note of Sami coming back, a surprise twist that would be insanely fun for fans would be a return for EJ (no one stays dead for long in soap opera land). However, if such a twist were to happen, fans shouldn't count on the role being briefly reprised by James Scott.

3. Kristen DiMera

Speaking of those dastardly DiMeras, Kristen could also make for a nice treat if she returns. The DiMera action has been sorely lacking with only Chad (Billy Flynn) and Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) around to cause trouble, and they don't seem to be doing much plotting outside of the boardroom of DiMera enterprises. With talk of Kristen's goons keeping tabs on both Theresa (Jen Lilley) and Brady (Eric Martsolf), it could be the perfect time for her to come back to town for herself.

4. Bo Brady

Bo has been MIA for two years now, and his absence has been dealt with by Hope (Kristian Alfonso) officially filing for divorce so she could move on with her life. But it would be so much better if her husband showed up and started causing trouble for her and Aiden (Daniel Cosgrove). He is also likely to return for at least one episode-Peter Reckell confirmed he was in talks on Twitter.

5. Chloe Lane

While the last thing Daniel (Shawn Cosgrove) may need is another woman somehow complicating his life, Parker's mother would be a welcome presence again in Salem, at least for a brief appearance.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
