A nationwide recall of peanut butter and other nut products have some of the largest retailers pulling the items from their store shelves.

In addition to the Trader Joe's brand peanut butter, the recent recall has included some nut butters and nut products sold at Whole Foods Market, Target, Safeway, Fresh & Easy, Harry and David, Sprouts, Heinen's, Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, Giant Food of Landover, Md., and other stores, ABC News reported.

Sunland Inc. expanded its recall of peanut butter to include almond butter, cashew butter, tahini and other peanut products, the news source also reported. The company sells these items to major grocery stores and distributors across the country, and they recalled their nut and nut butter products last month after salmonella outbreaks were linked to Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, one of the brands Sunland manufactures.

Enstarz.com reported in September that the grocery chain Trader Joe's recalled their peanut butter that has been linked to 29 salmonella illnesses in 18 states.

The Food and Drug Administration, along with the federal Centers for Disease Control, said the Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, part of the Trade Joe's brand and which the grocery chain sells nationwide, is likely the source of the salmonella outbreak, according to the Los Angeles Times.

They also reported that more than three-fourths of those who became ill from the peanut butter were children under the age of 18.

The chain has voluntarily pulled the item from their shelves and the FDA issued a statement confirming that they, the CDC and the state of California, briefed Trader Joe's on their concerns and are in the midst of an investigation to show the link between the peanut butter and the salmonella outbreaks, according to the Huffington Post.

The site also revealed that according to state health departments, three of the outbreaks were reported to happen in Massachusetts, one in Rhode Island and one in North Carolina.

ABC added that Sunland recalled all other products manufactured on the same equipment as the Trader Joe's recalled peanut butter in question. A total of 101 products were recalled by the company and some retailers have recalled any products they carry made with Sunland ingredients.
