A tragic turn took place on the season finale of The Fosters- on the series and in real life.

'The Fosters' Season 3 Speculation Chatter

On Monday night's episode, Jesus, Mariana and their pregnant birth mother, Ana, got into a car accident that may have been fatal. It would seem doubtful that the series would kill off a main character, but rumor has it that Jesus may have been the one to meet his fate.

But why Jesus? Because it has been confirmed that Jake T. Austin, who plays the character, will not be returning to the series.

'The Fosters' Gets Renewed For A Third Season

Austin took to his Twitter page to announce his departure from the ABC Family drama.

"I'm honored to have been a part of such a groundbreaking series, but I personally want to let you know that my time on the show..." he wrote, followed by, "has come to an end. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family, it's been a pleasure.- JTA"

Unfortunately, a reason was not given on why he was exiting.

Bradley Bredeweg, one of the creators of the series, then posted his kind words to the actor where he also mentioned a little tease on what's to come next.

"All of us at #TheFosters wish Jake the very best. But we are still a family. And as I said, not everything is what it seems on #TheFosters," Bredweg wrote.

So what does this mean? Is Jesus not going to die after all? There was the whole boarding school situation so perhaps that could be a factor in upcoming episodes.

The Fosters Season 3 is expected to premiere this summer on ABC Family.
