A Texas mother is facing criminal charges of child abuse for gluing her daughter's hands to a wall.

In July, Elizabeth Escalona pleaded guilty to the felony charge of injury to a child. The consequences range from a light probation to a life long prison sentence.

The 23-year-old mother of five beat her 2-year-old daughter who was having a hard time potty training. She also super glued the young girl's hands to a wall.

Escalona says that she can never forgive herself for her actions.

"I love my kids," said Escalona. "I will never forgive myself for what I did to my own daughter."

Escalona was shown images of her daughter's injuries by Defense attorney Angie N'Duka who asked what type of person would do such a thing. The mother responded, "Only a monster does that."

Prosecutors are pushing for a 45-year term as sentencing is set to continue Thursday. Escalona pleaded that she has changed her behavior, and that she will accept any punishment given to her by the court.

The abuse turned out to be more than just a pair of glued hands. Ecalona abused her daughter by hitting her with a milk jug and kicking her in the stomach.

The young girl was severely hurt from the beating that required hospitalization. Her injuries included a fractured rib, multiple bruises; bite marks, and bleeding in her brain. The incident left her in a coma for a few days.

Witnesses in the case testified that the girl's skin was ripped from her hands when they were pulled from the wall.

Escalona has been receiving counseling from Melanie Davis since June. Davis said that she believes Escalona loves her children, but "is in need of further counseling services."

Since being arrested, Escalona's five children have been put in the care of her mother.
