Marvel is taking over the airwaves - ABC's Agents of SHIELD may spawn a spin off for the fall season.

Currently in it's second year and a likely contender for a season 3 renewal, Agents of SHIELD is gearing up to introduce a plot that could find its way into another off shoot of the MCU, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The untitled series is currently in development from SHIELD executive producer Jeffery Bell (Harper's Island, Angel) and writer Paul Zbyszewski (Hawaii Five-0, Lost). ABC has yet to give the pilot an official go-ahead and the program will receive no introduction in Agents of SHIELD. However, the events of the back half of season 2 will set up a foundation for the spin off.

"Story elements that are still to come on SHIELD this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series. So by the end of the season - assuming the details for this project haven't already leaked, which is rather unlikely - the spinoff concept should be clear," Entertainment Weekly reported.

Will there be any character cross over between the spin off and its parent series? Considering the highly interconnected nature of the MCU, movement between the two series seems like a very likely possibility. Which main characters - if any - will make a permanent move, however, remains unknown.
