Season 5 was widely reported as being the last for MTV's hit series Awkward, but now, one of the showrunners is hinting there could be a chance that the show will still return for a sixth season.

Jenna To 'Make Up Her Mind' About Matty Once And For All

In a Facebook post advertising the official season five trailer on April 29, co-showrunner Mike Chessler appears to have changed the story--hinting that the show could still visit the Palos Hills gang after their time at the high school ends.

"It might not be the series finale. We might continue, so we'll see what makes sense in terms of the degree of wrapping up this chapter." - Mike Chessler <3 <3 <3

Someone Gets Engaged On 'Awkward' Season 5!

Fans naturally pounced on the potential news that the show could live beyond Jenna's (Ashley Rickards) controversial years in high school--and that the action could follow her to her even more difficult to navigate college years as well.

"PLEASE CONTINUE!!! College awkwardness would be awesome to watch!" one fan commented.

"Can't college be awkward as well?" another asked.

"I need them to continue this series. I'm not ready to let go," another said.

As of now, the possibility of the show being revived for a sixth season is not confirmed, though the season 5 trailer does seem to hint that the final weeks of senior year won't be anything less than surprising for Jenna, Matty (Beau Mirschoff), Sadie (Molly Tarlov), Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed), Lissa (Greer Grammar) and Jake (Brett Davern). In addition to the usual end of the year rituals including graduation and prom, at least one senior will find themselves making the difficult decision about whether or not they will get married.

Awkward season 5 premieres August 31 on MTV.
