Shooting has officially begun on the highly-anticipated prequel series Fear The Walking Dead, and the show's creator is guaranteeing fans of the original show that this one will also be very worth their time.

In a behind-the scenes video, Executive Producer Robert Kirkman promised fans the show would be "very cool."

"I think that the coolest thing about this show is that it tells its own story," Kirkman says in the video. "You don't need to watch The Walking Dead to understand Fear The Walking Dead...It's going to be a very cool show."

Showrunner Dave Erickson also spoke about the show in the behind-the-scenes-clip, explaining that the new show's timeline, which takes things back to the initial zombie outbreak, will help tell more about the story in a way that could make some of the events affecting the original cast make more sense.

"There's so much story by way of the zombie world that has to come," Erickson said. "You expect a certain thing of The Walking Dead. We want to give that sense and then pull the rug out from under them."

Shortly after the video's release, cast members headlining the new show were spotted getting ready to film scenes of the show in Vancouver, which is going to double for L.A., the setting of the new show.

The series will star Cliff Curtis, Alycia Debnam, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Mercedes Mason and Elizabeth Rodriguez. The first season will consist of six one-hour episodes and is set to debut this summer, with an already greenlit second season set to likely begin filming soon after.
