The debut of Fallout 4, one of the worst-kept recent gaming secrets, is getting very close to official confirmation. Bethesda Game Studios has launched a website featuring an image from Fallout with a countdown timer, which will expire tomorrow with what is presumably the announcement.

The site is registered as fallout.bethsoft.com, leaving little question as to what the developer is planning to reveal. It was expected that Bethesda would wait until E3 to announce the game, but have clearly opted to make the reveal in the weeks prior to the conference.

Perhaps announcing the game now will leave Bethesda open to show off more at E3, though that's wishful thinking this early on. Gameplay footage is not likely quite yet, but hopefully the studio can provide a CGI trailer to get us excited.

Fallout is a post-apocalyptic RPG franchise, which transitioned from its top-down isometric origins to a first and third-person 3D title with Fallout 3. The game received critical acclaim when it released in 2008, as well as a spin-off (Fallout: New Vegas) created using a version of its engine.

With an open world similar to that of The Elder Scrolls games, fans should be excited to see what Bethesda can do with the current generation hardware. At the time of writing, there are currently less than 23 hours until the reveal!
