After her initial inability to keep Ben Crawford (Ryan Philippe) from covering for his daughter Abby (Belle Shouse), Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) could try starting her life over somewhere else when Secrets and Lies returns for a second season next year.

New Photo Shows A Pensive Cornell

The show's initial season, which saw Cornell trying to find who killed Ben's son Tom, ended with a shocking twist which saw Ben cover for his daughter and head to prison for the crime he didn't commit--only for it to be revealed later that he may have been killed while in prison, prompting his other daughter, Natalie (Indiana Evans) to turn her sister in. Cornell was visibly shaken by the case, which appeared to mirror what she had gone through with her ex and their daughter, who was serving time in jail for crimes of her own.

Now, Cornell could be trying to escape North Carolina and everything that haunts her there, starting over in California in the new season, if a move on the show's production end plays any role in the show's storylines.

'Secrets and Lies' Season 2 Gets A Premiere Date

According to the Star News, the ABC drama is relocating to California from its initial Wilmington, N.C. filming location as a means of taking advantage of the new $330 million tax credit program California is offering for film projects.

"Our time in {North Carolina) was rewarding and the people were amazing," executive producer Aaron Kaplan wrote in an email to the newspaper. "We were treated wonderfully and we were sad to leave."

The show joins other projects including FX's American Horror Story, HBO's Veep, and VH1's Hindsight as ones to receive the credits in the first period of California's credits, sharing $27.6 million which was earmarked for those interested in relocating their production to the West Coast.

The move for Secrets and Lies was expected after the North Carolina General Assembly voted to slash the state's own credit program last year.

If the show wants to keep a concept where the action takes place in the same state where they film, then it could mean Cornell moves across the country and refocuses her life as she investigates a new mystery.

Cornell is the only character from the first season who will move on to the new one, with Philippe, Shouse, Evans, KaDee Strickland, Natalie Martinez and Dan Fogler all wrapping up their roles on the show after the first season.
