inXile Entertainment has revealed the first gameplay video for The Bard's Tale IV, which is quickly nearing its Kickstarter goal. If you were hesitant about backing it before, this might just change your mind.

The original Bard's Tale launched developer Brian Fargo's career and became one of Interplay's biggest hits, 30 long years ago, and the original creators are returning to the story with the aid of some crowdfunding money. While some are hesitant to put their money behind Kickstarter games, inXile has proven themselves already with the tremendous success of Wasteland 2, which was released to great critical acclaim. (Their second crowdfunding success, Torment: Tides of Numenera, is still on the way.)

"It's been an amazing last 30 years and I feel so fortunate to continue in the games business for this long.", says Brian Fargo, CEO on inXile. "And it is only because of the incredible support our fans have given us that I'm still here today working on these great role playing games. After so many years, I couldn't be more excited to revive the classic Bard's Tale."

inXile is seeking $1.25 million to make The Bard's Tale IV (with plans to invest $1.25 million of their own money on top), and are quickly nearing their goal. They're creating the game with the aid of Unreal Engine 4 and the graphics look suitably stunning- check out those fire effects in the cavern!

Since the game takes place in Scotland they're using photogrammetry to create in-game 3D objects from photos of Scottish architecture, as well as a Gaelic soundtrack. In the trailer you will hear singer Julie Fowlis singing lyrics from the original Bard's Tale poem, translated into Gaelic. You might know her from being featured on the soundtrack for Pixar's Brave.
