The fact that it is set across the country from where Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company are camping out isn't the only thing that will be different on Fear the Walking Dead.

Could A Timeline Match-Up Result In A 'FTWD' & 'TWD' Cross-Over?

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Robert Kirkman dished a few new details about the companion series, and revealed in the process that when it comes to setting, the group dealing with the start of the infectious zombie outbreak won't be finding themselves stranded in a similar wooded setting to those fighting it out on the East Coast.

"Los Angeles is such an interesting city in and of itself, just because of the vast melting pot of diversity that California has become," Kirkman said. "The urban sprawl--it covers a tremendous amount of land, and it's got an extremely dense population, so there are a lot of things about that that lend itself well to good storytelling in the zombie apocalypse. But also, this is a city where a vast number of people come to the city to reinvent themselves, or they're new to the city for various different reasons. It's almost a city of immigrants inside a country of immigrants. So there's definitely some aspects of that we'll also be playing with as well."

When asked to explain if that meant Madison (Kim Dickens), Travis (Cliff Curtis) and co. would find themselves in situations like Rick and his group, who often wind up wandering through heavily wooded areas in between finding brief places for potential salvation, Kirkman revealed that they wouldn't come anywhere near those settings.

"Yeah, we'll definitely be spending a lot less time in the woods," he said. "I can say I think we're not in the woods at all. Yeah, I am pretty sure we are in zero woods this season."

Fear the Walking Dead premieres later this summer on AMC.
