As new information surfaces about Jill Kelley, the woman who received harassing emails from the rumored lover of former CIA director David Petraeus, reports revealed that Kelley and Petraeus have been good friends for many years.

Jill Kelley, who authorities confirmed to be the woman in email correspondence with Paula Broadwell, serves as an social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., where the military's Central Command and Special Operations Command is located, according to RGJ.com. The 37-year-old and her husband made a statement on Sunday, Nov. 11, saying, "We and our family have been friends with Gen. Petraeus and his family for over five years. We respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children."

Petraeus voluntarily stepped down from his position as CIA director on Friday after information surfaced to the public about his affair with Broadwell, who was his biographer. The two spent much time together as Broadwell collected information for her book "All In: The Education of General David Petraeus." Broadwell is married and has two children and Petraeus and his wife Holly have been married for 38 years and also have two adult children.

Petraus told friends the affair began in August of 2011 after he left the army, according to ABC News.

Kelley had received harassing emails from Broadwell, which then led the FBI to examine her email account. Authorities eventually discovering correspondence that revealed an extramarital relationship between Petraeus and Broadwell. When the FBI contacted Petraeus and other intelligence officials letting them know what they had found, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper asked Petraeus to resign.

Members of Congress got involved and announced on Sunday that they want more information regarding Petraeus' first involvement in the FBI investigation, whether national security was compromised and why they were not told sooner about the case, according to ClarionLedger.com.
