The single most well-received announcement at E3 is almost certainly the planned remake of Final Fantasy VII, a series favorite and--for many--one of the best games ever made. The reveal was met with unmatched excitement both in person and online, and you can watch the debut trailer below.

The game will be remade for PlayStation 4 only at first, with more unannounced platforms to come. There are few details concerning other systems and a release date, but Square Enix simply says you can "play it first" on PS4 and find out more this winter. The game boasted surprising investment into characters and plot, and received critical acclaim for its epic storyline combined with (at the time) cutting-edge sequences. Since its initial release, Final Fantasy VII has sold over 11 million copies worldwide and is still regarded as one of the best games in the genre--and certainly the series. An updated version with new visuals (plus more extras and add-ons promised) is a dream come true for many longtime fans.
