The White House released on Thursday the presidential proclamation that today is America Recycles Day.

Signed by President Obama, the released proclamation stated that for the past 15 years, the United States of America has celebrated this day as a time to focus on conserving valuable materials, keeping our communities clean, and protecting our environment.

"Today we reflect on the progress we have made toward fulfilling those important goals and rededicate ourselves to building a more sustainable future," the statement said.

"Each year, recycling puts millions of pounds of valuable materials back into use. By diverting old products from the landfill to the factory floor, we take meaningful steps toward a greener economy and help power an entire industry centered on recycling, reuse, and refurbishing. We also reduce or avoid the environmental impacts of using virgin materials."

Obama proclaimed Nov. 15, as America Recycles Day and called upon the nation to use the day for appropriate programs and activities. He even encouraged all Americans to continue reducing, reusing and recycling efforts throughout the year.

"I have hereunto set my hand this fifteenth day of November, in the year of our lord two thousand twelve, and of the independence of the United States of America the two and thirty-seventh."

The signed proclamation by president Obama encourages Americans to commemorate the day by taking bold actions to preserve the nation's natural resources, strengthen the economy, and protect the bountiful landscapes the country has been blessed with.

It also pushed Americans to give a chance to highlight one of the resources often taken for granted, food. The proclamation said though many Americans lack access to daily nutritious meals, most of the country's foods go to waste.

The president took this opportunity to encourage Americans to consume carefully and donate what they can.

"Food banks and pantries accept wholesome food that meets quality and safety standards, as do many national and local food recovery programs. Though giving to those in need, all Americans can lift up their communities while helping protect the environment we share."
