Series creator Jason Rothenberg laid out the fact while speaking with TV Guide Magazine - there is one apparently mass murdering AI and one AI creator who feels responsible for his creation's destruction of humanity.
"We will understand everything, and it will be surprising," Rothenberg teased. "It has a big impact on the present-tense story."
With 97 years separating the Sky People from the deadly disaster that trapped them in space, there is undoubtedly plenty of information about the initial incident that was either forgotten or simply never revealed.
