While the Atlanta Falcons look as though they'll have the edge in terms of home field advantage in the NFC playoffs, it's still far-fetched to say that they've played like the conference's best team over the past month.

Although the Falcons currently sport one of the NFL's best records at 9-1, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4) will actually be the hotter team taking the field on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.

For the first time in a decade, the Bucs will look for their fifth consecutive victory when they take on Atlanta, who has been noticeably inconsistent in their last two weeks of play.

The Falcons have more wins than any other club in the NFC. However, the team has spent a majority of their time on the brink of losing, as six of their last seven matchups have been determined by seven points or fewer.

Atlanta's undefeated streak was brought to a screeching halt when they were beaten by the New Orleans Saints via 31-27 margin on Nov. 11.

To top it off, the Falcons were trailing for a majority of the game last week against the Arizona Cardinals before winning 23-19.

In the matchup, Atlanta became the first team to win with its quarterback (Matt Ryan) throwing five interceptions without a touchdown since Green Bay did it with Bart Starr in 1967.

"We're very, very fortunate. You've just got to keep fighting. It's amazing. The NFL is so close," coach Mike Smith told ESPN.

Tampa Bay can certainly relate to the respective predicament, as they saw themselves lose twice in the final minute of play while in the midst of a three-game September losing streak.

Nonetheless, the Bucs are very much in the postseason picture after racking up three straight double-digit wins. Last Sunday, Tampa Bay came back after being down by 11 points in the final six minutes to prevail against the Carolina Panthers 27-21.
