ABC's Modern Family might make history this year at the Emmys, but it's possible that another show could finally take it down.

Will Amy Schumer Win The Emmy Over Julia Louis-Dreyfus & Others After Breakout Year?

Modern Family has won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series every year for the past five years, tying the record set by Frasier in the '90s. If it wins again this year, it will officially become the all-time record holder for most Comedy Series wins in Emmy history.

This is a huge milestone that will likely be on the minds of many Emmy voters. While there's a chance they could win no. 6, there are more shows now than ever that could pull off an upset.

'American Horror Story: 'Freak Show' Earns Emmy Nominations For Pretty Much Everyone

HBO's Veep has steadily increased in nominations since it began in 2012, and this fourth season could do the trick for the political satire. The show is nominated for Comedy Series, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, directing and writing, all of which indicate broad support in the Television Academy. With politics more relevant than ever, they could finally nab the big Emmy.

Meanwhile, Amazon's Transparent came out of the gate strong for its debut season. It scored 11 Emmy nominations, more than any other comedy this year, which is a remarkable feat for a streaming service as new as Amazon Prime. The show, which centers on a father in his '70s who comes out as transgender to his kids, has a message that is more timely than ever before. The only thing that may hold Transparent back is the lack of broad laughs, which is often required to win in this category.

In a year as wide open as this, anything could win. Even FX's Louie, NBC's Parks and Recreation, HBO's Silicon Valley or Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt could pull off a surprise upset.

The Primetime Emmys will be announced Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
