Longmire season 4 will ultimately be about second chances, according to an executive producer on the show.

'Longmire' Season 4 Production Ends As Cast Posts Bittersweet Messages

Longmire EP Greer Shephard spoke with critics at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Tuesday where he previewed what's ahead for season 4.

With this being the show's first season with Netflix, Shepard likened the fourth season to its fate as a show itself.

Netflix Announces Official 'Longmire' Season 4 Release Date

"Season 4 is about second chances. Who you are as a person is defined by how you handle the second chance. Netflix has incorporated that theme in their campaign," he explained. "There are a lot of ways in which people can rebuild themselves after devastating experiences. We explore that theme throughout each of our characters. Now that Walt knows the murderer of his wife, how does he go on? With Henry, he has a new-found freedom, what does he do with it?"

As always, the fourth season will deal heavily in Native American issues. He explained that the new episodes would include "issues facing Native Americans on their reservations. There are horrific loopholes with their tribal police and courts where they can't prosecute non-natives that commit crimes on the nation."

This will involve both Henry (Lou Diamond Phillips) and Walt (Robert Taylor) in their own ways.

Longmire was canceled by A&E back in August after three seasons. It was reported that the show's young demographic was not high enough, despite it being the highest rated scripted show overall on the network.

Shephard threw in a little dig at A&E as he praised being on Netflix now.

"A&E didn't have an ownership stake in the show. We're now at a company that values viewers," he said.

Longmire season 4 will be released in its entirety on Thursday, Sept. 10 on Netflix.
