The Mentalist's days may be numbered.
'The Mentalist' Title Revealed For Simon Baker Directed Episode, When Will It Air?
Season 7 has yet to premiere, but the series is only slated for a 13-episode run. Despite what fans may hope for, the cast and crew believe that the CBS drama will not tack any extra installments onto that order.
"Don't count on it... but we can all hope," said editor Jimmy Gadd on Tuesday. "Just be glad we have a Sea7on Seven."
'The Mentalist' Car Chases & Gun Fights Promised For 'Greybar Hotel'
The Mentalist managed to snag an eleventh hour renewal last spring, but the Simon Baker series may not be so lucky next year. After the death of Red John, the series underwent an overhaul, moving Patrick Jane (Baker) to the FBI and ousting Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yoeman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) from the cast. With all these changes, The Mentalist runs the risk of losing long-time viewers.
If season 7 does turn out to be the series final bow, series creator Bruno Heller promises that it will provide a fitting conclusion.
"The purpose of an encore is to get people leaving the theater happy and giving them what they want and hitting your marks as strong as possible, so that will be the intention," Heller told The Hollywood Reporter.
