A recording of the 911 call made by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher's mother shows that she had begged his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins to stay alive after her son shot her.

Belcher tragically shot to death his girlfriend Saturday morning before driving over to Arrowhead Stadium and shooting himself in front of his general manager and coach.

Belcher, 25, repeatedly shot and killed 22-year-old Perkins at their home in Kansas City in front of his mother. He then drove to Arrowhead Stadium where he shot and killed himself in front of the Chiefs' head coach and General Manager.

In the frantic call made by Belcher's mother Cheryl Shepherd, their three-month old baby could be heard crying in the background.

The Kansas City Fire Department recordings shows Shepherd telling Perkins to stay alive, according to Fox Sports. ''Stay with me, the ambulance is on the way. Stay with me.''

She told the operator: "Oh my God. Oh my God, Cassie..The baby is crying.. get the ambulance here please!" She went on to say that Perkins was bleeding and was just barely breathing. "She is still breathing but barely. Please hurry. I don't know how many times he shot her. They were arguing." She also said her son left the house afterwards.

The couple's newborn daughter Zoey Michelle is currently in the custody of Shepherd.

The Kansas City Chiefs' released a statement following the tragic incident.

"The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today's events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy. We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted," the Chiefs said in a statement on their website.

"We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities and work to ensure that the appropriate counseling resources are available to all members of the organization."
