Bayern Munich vs BATE Borisov takes place on Wednesday night in the Champions League in Group F. Bayern will be at home and be hoping to secure the win that can see them qualify top of the group, giving them potentially an easier tie in the next round. Bayern are currently top of Group F on 10 points. They are joined by Spanish side Valencia on 10 points. In fact Valencia have a superior goal difference, which in most leagues would make them top, but in the Champions League group stages, if two teams are level then their head to head record will determine who is higher, prior to goal difference kicking in. So Bayern, if they can equal Valencia's result today then they will qualify top of the group.

Both Bayern Munich and Valencia have already qualified for the knock out stages of the competition, with BATE in third on six points, and Lille bottom with just three points.

Therefore, ultimately neither the German team nor the Spanish team will worry too much if they lose today, but will both prefer to finish top.

In the group BATE is probably the harder fixture, and Bayern will still have to play well to get the result they want.

Some have suggested the team will put out a weaker side tonight and rest some of the key players, and not risk their top players in case they get injured. However, even though a few names might drop out a reasonably strong side is still expected to compete as Bayern for sure want to finish first in the group – which could see them avoid teams such as Barcelona, Manchester United and fellow-German side Borussia Dortmund in the next round.
