Jenny McCarthy flaunted her abs on the January/February cover of SHAPE magazine and spoke about the exercise and diet routine that helps her stay slim.

The former Playboy model impressed readers because she sports a physique that resembles women half her age, and in the issue she shared her secrets for achieving and maintaining a toned body. She attributed it to a healthy lifestyle that involves a secret liquid diet and various exercises, because she "can't do the same thing over again" or she'd "lose her mind."

"I get to work out about five times a week. I switch things up because I can't do the same thing over and over again. I'd lose my mind," McCarthy told the magazine. "If I only have ten minutes I definitely have a go-to work out and that is to do lunges, sit ups, and pushups."

Some of her workout sessions include yoga twice a week, strength training and running. She also stressed the importance of music to help keep her motivated during workouts.

"I'd rather be electrocuted than not have my iPod on the treadmill," she said.

McCarthy shared another secret to staying slim and maintaining washboard abs: a "soup diet." The comedienne revealed that sometimes she'll consume only soup for 10 days straight.

"I make a ton of nutritious ones, like butternut squash and vegetable. When I want to drop 5 pounds quickly, I eat them for every meal for about 10 days," she said.

She also avoids cigarettes, coffee, gluten and dairy. Her favorite healthy snack is watermelon because "It helps you retain water" and she added, "It's yummy and really filling."

McCarthy revealed that she does cheat on occasion and her favorite cheat snack is chocolate milkshake, which she considers a comfort food. In the behind-the-scenes video footage shot during her photo shoot, the Chicago said that she felt "honored" to appear on the cover of SHAPE because she recently turned 40.

McCarthy is a single mother to her son Evan, 10, who has autism. She has written several books including one that offers advice to parents of children with autism. She recently released her seventh book "Bad Habits: Confessions of a Recovering Catholic."

She is also the host of NBC's "Love in the Wild."
