It's not often the CBS drama devotes major storylines to LL Cool J's character - he is one of the most stable agents on Hetty's (Linda Hunt) crew - but the seventh season will throw the former Navy SEAL into the deep end.

"Sam will be confronted with his most difficult case, the most difficult situation he's ever been in as an agent or as a SEAL," series creator Shane Brennan teased at Paley Fest, according to TV Fanatic. "It has big repercussions. That's all I'm going to say. That's towards the end of the season."

In the past, Sam's biggest struggles have revolved around his family, Callen (Chris O'Donnell), and potent memories of SEAL missions gone south. The series has already explored the character's efforts to keep his wife and children out of danger and the upcoming premiere will pit the agent against his longtime partner. As the season winds down, it appears viewers will be treated to an entirely new aspect of Sam's life.

"This season is fun because every character has a really challenging episode at some point," writer/producer R. Scott Gemmill told The Hollywood Reporter. "We think of this season as a lot of tentpoles, in terms of characters getting their day in the sun."
