The Vampire Diaries will be shifting in the new season since it is Elena-less (Nina Dobrev), but that is not a bad thing.

How Snippy Will Damon Get With Bonnie In New 'Vampire Diaries' Season?

The supernatural CW series will get to further explore other relationships especially the core relationship that has been around since the beginning. That relationship is the sibling bond between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) Salvatore.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Somerhalder dished on what viewers can expect moving forward with the shift in storylines.

Will Damon & Stefan Torture Lily In New 'Vampire Diaries' Season?

With Elena gone, Damon will be coping in his own way, which includes plenty of alcohol at times, but with Lily's (Annie Wersching) heretic family around he will experience a huge shift in his irresponsible outlook.

"He comes near death a couple of times and has to start protecting people," Somerhalder said of his character, adding, "So it really becomes about him protecting this box and fighting with his mom; he's really not happy with his madre at all."

He will also hold some anger towards his brother and rightfully so, but despite the anger he'll feel he will still love his sibling.

"If you look at the way the story's been told, it always comes back to the love of these two brothers," the actor explained, adding, "The women that they love got in the way, but now they're just brothers, and they're forced to deal with a lot of stuff. One of their new problems is that they lost their home, and Damon's pretty pissed at Stefan for letting that happen."

The series returns to The CW in the fall for Season 7 on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
