One Monopoly game piece will be retired, Hasbro has announced, with the company giving the public the chance to vote on which one will be dropped.

Hasbro has announced that Monopoly fans will be able to vote for their favorite pieces in an attempt to save them. When the voting closes the least favorite piece will be dropped from the long-time popular game permanently.

According to early comments on the voting from Facebook users, it seems as though Scotty the dog will be the overwhelming favorite.

According to voting the dog already has garnered more than 60,000 votes, although Scotty is followed closely by the popular car piece.

The two least popular pieces from the classic board game, from early voting, are the boot - which is bottom, picking up just over 6,000 votes, as well as the thimble, which is just a little ahead of the boot.

“Give the Boot the boot,” declared one Facebook user, indicating who they wanted out.

Hasbro, in an attempt to bring new attention to the classic board game, is also promoting that it will replace the dropped piece. It is already touting new pieces that potentially could take the eliminated piece’s place. New pieces could potentially be a diamond ring, a guitar, and even a helicopter.

Eric Nyman, senior vice president and global brand leader for Hasbro Gaming, has said, "The tokens are one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly game and we know that people are emotionally tied to their favorite one. When we decided to replace one of the tokens in the game, we knew we had to involve our fans in the process.”

He added, "We can't wait to see which iconic piece will 'go to jail, and which new token the fans will choose to become part of one of the world's most popular games.'"
